The Jesus Gay Marriage Interview Has Sparked Debate

By Claudine Hodges

When two people fall in love, they often want to cement that love in something more permanent. This is often by way of getting married. Gay marriages are exactly that, except the situation involves two lovers of the same sex. Unfortunately not all states in the USA agree that this is legal and have banned same sex marriages. According to Elton Jon's Jesus gay marriage interview, this matter must be looked into in more depth.

Legislation with regards to this type of marriage varies per state. Equal marriages were only introduced in the 21st century during the first decade. Over time, each state has revised their human rights legislation and amended accordingly to include same sex marriages to be recognised legally. It has now been recognised in at least 34 states in the USA.

There are still many human rights campaigns around the world advocating for equality. It is an issue that stretches across social, political, and human and civil-rights barriers. It is also an issue that affects religious organisations and leads to many a heated debate. It provides benefits that are gay couples were previous denied, for example legal protection or tax benefits.

There is a lot of research to support the psychological and physiological benefits of being married. It prevents public discrimination in stigmatization. Marriages are known to improve quality of life as you share all your concerns and stress with your partner as well as all the successes you achieve. You have a friend for life, someone to count on. Homosexuals also strive to also enjoy these aspects of a union and are able to in a same-sex unions.

The type of ceremony is based on two important factors; personal taste (such as an extravagant wedding reception), and marriage officer (for example, if the couple chooses to marry in a church then they would need to check if that priest or pastor is willing to marry them). The couple would need to take this into account when planning a wedding.

There are many issues that a same sex couple may experience when they get married. A major bone of contention is the issue of parenting. Research has not disproved that children will be at a disadvantaged with gay parents. Research has however proved the advantages for children to have parents in a loving relationship cemented in wedlock as it provides the children with security and a feeling of being loved. Gay couples have proven their competence in parenting and although heavily debated, may parent just as effectively as a heterosexual couple.

There is plenty of heated discussion about the "sinfulness" of homosexuality in certain religions. Some churches and religions are completely against this type of matrimony. However, there are some religions that accept homosexuality and may even perform ceremonies for same sex couples.

In the USA, gay marriages are not uncommon and couples live a happily married life. There are still some states that will need to readdress the inequalities in their constitution. It may be possible that they will adapt their legislation to include homosexual couples in the act of getting married in the near future.
