What Does The Resurrected Babylonian Head Represent?

By Donna Watson

The bible has made mentions of the antichrist in several books and using different words. These words include the beast and the dragon. Daniel refers to this beast in his narration on the 70th week. John the apostle makes the clearest mention of the resurrected Babylonian head. In fact, he does so in Revelation and later in the three letters though their order is reversed in the bible.

The first significant mention of this beast is Revelation 13. A vivid description of Satan with seven heads and ten horns is given. This dragon makes six appearances to represent each head with the ultimate one being the seventh. The debate is whether the dragons represent people or kingdoms. This can be quelled by considering that people or kings create kingdoms which cannot exist without kings.

The empire beast appears from the seas or nations of the earth. This was meant to represent some kingdoms that have ruled the world including Egypt, Syria, Rome, Greece and Persia, among others. These kingdoms were always used to punish Israelis by God for such acts as idolatry. These empires have always wanted to cut the linkage of Judah and Israel in general. The final show will be the moment the empire declares the end of Israel and install its own reign.

Verse 3 of Revelation 13 says that this beast has a fatal wound but it appears to have healed. Just like a warrior who is celebrated for his survival marks, this beast is followed throughout the world with amazement. The explanation is given in Chapter 17. It is also worth mentioning that there is a woman who appears alongside the beast.

Chapter seventeen on verse eight gives the account of death and resurrection of the beast. This is what makes the beast to appear more of a person than a kingdom or empire. However, the challenge is in the death and resurrection since this is an uncommon occurrence. This can only happen if the world conspires to cheat. However, is it possible for God to kill and later cause a tyrant king to resurrect?

The explanation to resurrection is contained in Thessalonians. This book says that God will send a delusion to the people for failing to listen and believe in the truth. This delusion causes them to believe and worship the beast that appears to rise or resurrect from death. This is the description given to the antichrist who will rule the world with violence and deceit.

It is obvious and as mentioned before that six kingdoms and kings have already passed. The concern of present generation Christians should be on the seventh. As the bible says, the reign of the seventh will not be more than three and a half years. He will die and later resurrect as the eighth king and kingdom. This is clearly illustrated in chapter 17 verses nine to eleven.

Is there a possibility that the seventh and eventual eighth beast is the Islamic empire? What is clear is that it-the antichrist, shall proclaim death to anyone who does not follow his declarations. It will rule with an iron fist and cause untold destruction. The only people who will be safe are those who believe in the lamb.
