Official teachings of the SDA church are contained in a literature known as 28 Fundamental Beliefs which were approved by the General Conference in 1980. In 2005 a further belief was added. One must agree to take one of the two baptismal vows in order to become a member. This doctrine has similarities to a Trinitarian protestant theology where there is stress on premillennial and Arminian.
There are activities that Adventists are allowed to do on the Sabbath and those that they are not allowed. Part of Fridays are meant for preparation of the Sabbath. Activities to be done on Fridays include preparation of meals, cleaning homes, and setting all the requirements for Sabbath. Believers may gather to worship on Friday evenings as part of welcoming the Sabbath. This is known as vespers.

It is forbidden to partake in secular forms of recreation like competitive sports, work watching TV programs that are not religious and interacting with people from a different faith.
