Contributing To A Good Sierra Leone Charity

By Rebecca Stevens

Giving is one of the greatest virtues. It is just as great as the virtue of love. Those who have love in their hearts will readily give to those who are in dire need. The world needs more givers. It is through giving that the state of humanity is improved. Billions of people all over the world are in dire need. People are suffering from poverty, hunger, illiteracy, dirty water, and war among other things. The reason for the existence of a Sierra Leone charity is to reduce suffering in the society. It is bad when people suffer.

Sierra Leone is a fragile country. A former British colony, this country has had only a few years of political stability. For the better part of its history, it has been in war and conflict. This has left the social and political systems completely broken. Citizens have been left without means and most of them are facing a hopeless life situation.

Contributing to charitable organizations makes a lot of sense. It is good to be sensitive to the needs of other people especially those people in underprivileged countries. Most nations in Africa are still developing. Thus, a good percentage of Africans are not in a position to enjoy a high quality of life. There are people who live on less than a dollar in a day.

The problem of poverty is a major one. A person does not have to visit the remotest parts of Africa or Asia so that to be able to see the ugly face of poverty. As a matter of fact, poverty is still in some places in the United States of America. Living in poverty is living a precarious life.

As a matter of fact, poverty needs to be a thing of the past. It should be something that people read in history books or see in the museums. That will only be the case when charity work is given the seriousness it deserves. One can directly engage in this work. Alternatively, one can contribute to the various charitable organizations.

There is nothing meaningful that can be done without money. Even spreading the good gospel requires money. The preacher will need to have transport so that to take the gospel far and wide. That also applies to charity. It requires a good deal of money. Thus, one can contribute cash to charitable organizations. Even a contribution of a dollar will help greatly.

Of course, a person should contribute according to his means. If one is in a position to contribute ten dollars or even a hundred dollars there is totally no reason why he should contribute a dollar. Cash is not the only form of contributing. There is also contributing in kind. One can contribute clothes, shoes, books, food, and other supplies.

One should not give to the first organization that he comes across. On one hand, there are good charitable organizations. On the other hand, there are bad ones. There is the need to make a distinction between the two. For that to be the case, a person will need to do his homework. Online research will come in handy.
