Call it tragedy or call it trauma, it is often not easy to overcome. While this is the case, most individuals go through difficult and challenging times at some point during life. For, some like codestiny Sheryl Sandberg, it is the sudden and unexpected death of a spouse while on vacation. Whereas, for others, it can be a bad traffic accident leaving permanent damage to health or the loss of a relationship.

While losing a spouse is one of the most difficult things on earth, there are also other types tragedies and losses in which Ms. Sandberg's work can be useful. Yoga, exercise routines, meditation and good hygiene are all important when it comes to facing a challenge head on. For, by staying fit in body and mind, an individual is often more aware of the positive and negative energies in the present. After which, the individual can work to let go of the negative energies such as disappointment and anger while focusing on the positive.

Getting involved in community activities, sports and other events can also be a way to focus on something other than the trauma. For, by focusing on something other than grief or pain, an individual overrides those feelings by focusing on the activity. Whereas, a local support group related to the trauma can often be a good way to learn how others were able to recover from the same or similar trauma.

The more people an individual know, the more likely the ability to find a job or start a career. For, networking is the new way of interviewing for a number of employers. Whereas, it also helps to have individuals to share a conversation, a meal, or a cup of coffee on a whim with someone familiar.

In some instances, individuals may never fully recover from a challenge, loss or struggle. In fact, a number of people have panic attacks or fits when another person mentions a past traumatic event. While this is the case, when those individuals can start to embrace oneself for whom one is today rather than whom one was in the past, the panic attacks and fits often begin to fade.

Most people, once having overcome a tragedy or trauma sometimes feel that it is necessary to give back to acquaintances, friends or community members and organizations whom provided help during difficult times. While most often not expected, the mere act of giving back can actually calm the body, mind and soul. As such, doing so can also be a major part of the healing and recovery process.
