Why So Many Yearn How To Find Inner Peace With God

By Jordan Schmidt

Modern life is fast and competitive. It is also fraught with uncertainties. So many people feel as if they are caught up on a relentless treadmill that takes them nowhere. They see no meaning in their lives and they seek it by consulting therapists and self help books. They feel scared too, especially since international conflict started to escalate. For many such people, trying to learn how to find inner peace with God is the only answer.

There has been a remarkable increase in people that are earnest in their desire to live more spiritual lives. A large number of them turn to religion, but many others explore disciplines such as yoga to discover meaning and balance in life. Life coaches have experienced a tremendous growth in business and the top practitioners in this field are fully occupied and they charge hefty fees for their services.

After decades of dwindling church attendance many denominations now experience a growth in active memberships. A number of studies and surveys, both formal and informal have been conducted about this phenomenon. One thing is clear. More and more people believe in the existence of a deity that is both omnipotent and omniscient. They believe that this deity is in control of not only the universe, but also of their own lives.

In some cases people turn to organized religion because they are fearful. They fear death and chaos. They feel helpless and everywhere they witness the fact that they are vulnerable and unable to control events that influence them. In religion they experience certainty and reassurance that there is somebody in ultimate control. They find inner security in their belief that there is a master plan.

It is not only the desire to know that there is a deity in ultimate charge that there is therefore order that draw people to organized religion. Many people experience modern life as superficial and as a relentless race for earthly possessions and status. They want to be loved and cherished. Most religions preach a dogma of a loving deity, somebody that accepts each individuals just as he is. This deity promises unconditional love and eternal life.

Religion therefore offers people contentment and even self fulfilment. Church members feel fulfilled because they stop focusing on their own unhappiness and wants but rather focus serving their deity. They reach out to others less fortunate than themselves and such acts provide them with a sense of happiness and usefulness. Many find a new meaning in life and they thrive in the company of others that believe as they do.

There are many people and even organizations that decry the influence churches and religious orders exerts on modern society. They say that the existence of an almighty God is a fallacy and that those that choose to believe this myth should at best be pitied. They see religion as a dangerous practice that aims to undermine modern society and that holds no benefits whatsoever.

There can be no doubt that numerous people are looking for meaning in their lives. Many find that meaning in religion and from serving a loving, powerful deity. Religious orders are certainly growing and in some cases they have become powerful voices in government and in their local communities.
