An Insight Into Urban Education Issues

By Amy White

In any city dwelling, there are schools which are built by the government or private institution to provide learning to a city dweller. Some of these schools are located near industries and pose a great danger to the students. Moreover, some get underfunded and thus limit the level of education to be offered. In this case, city schools are faced with so many challenges that affect smooth operations and learning of students. Some of these challenges include under-funding and security and can be conquered in different ways. The document below shows some of the problems and possible solution to Urban Education Issues.

One of the main challenges in city schools is overcrowding. Many schools in town tend to have a high number of students due to the high population witnessed in many cities. As a parent or guardian you should consider the number of learners in a particular school of choice and if the number is too high, consider another option such as enrolling your child in a rural setting.

The other concern facing schooling in town is environmental concerns. Cities have industries which can affect students negatively due to noise or air pollution. Besides, hooting can reduce attentiveness of students and thus the local government should ensure they put up signboards discouraging hooting near the schools. Moreover, bad vehicles which smoke a lot should be removed from the street to avoid respiratory infection as a result of the excessive smoke.

Educational institutions which are located in places known to be insecure and have many organized criminals can affect the learning of students. In this case, learners may be uncomfortable and feel insecure thus schools should hire the service of guards to enhance security. Moreover, the school should put up walls and controlled access to secure students at all times.

The other challenge facing city learning systems is under-funding. Many institutions in the city are under-resourced because the county government concentrates on the basic requirements like building classrooms and forget about supporting the requirement of students like learning materials. The government should allocate adequate resources to enhance learning and provide the institutions with the needs.

One major challenge to town education system is the language barrier which may hinder communication between students and teachers. City schools have different civilizing and religious beliefs thus diverse backgrounds. Consequently, this may affect the connection between the teacher and the student, and therefore the school should embrace different cultures and ensure that strict cultural code of conduct is respected. Furthermore, building a healthy relationship between the teachers and students will assist in improving achievement and behavior change.

In cities, technology seems to dominate operations, and if not properly managed it can affect the learners negatively. For instance use of the internet should be controlled only for learning purposes and not for watching unwanted material. The institution should counsel students on how to use the technology for learning and conduct researches for the betterment of their learning.

Any schools system is bound to face numerous challenges. The many challenges faced in the learning system of schools in town can get resolved by putting in place measures which can improve learning in schools. Some of these measures have been discussed in this document and include enhancing security, counseling plans among others.
