Christian Education Principles For Teachers That Work Well

By Catherine Burns

If you are a Christian, you should love being taught whenever you have the chance. Although you can possibly get some insight into God's word during your personal devotion, being taught also has a way of improving your spiritual life. When you find a Sunday school where the workers are learned in some Christian education principles for teachers, you can be assured that your depth of understanding in the word of God and your fellowship with the Holy Spirit will improve.

One principle that must not be overlooked is having prior experience. It is best for a teacher to choose a topic he would have no problem in teaching even without materials. Another reason why this is necessary is that you never can tell what questions your students will ask as regards what has just been taught.

When answering the students' questions, the teacher should be calm and patient. He should realize that his main goal is for the students to draw closer to God. He should therefore not discourage them from asking questions or shun them when it appears the question looks irrelevant as this could prevent them from improving.

Actually, for a more effective study, mapping out time solely for questions and answers will be fine. If at first, the students don't ask relevant questions, you will notice that the quality of questions they ask will improve with time. Of course, this will also show an improvement in their level of understanding of what is being taught. Sunday school students can learn more during this session.

False prophets have arisen just like the Bible forewarned. The sad truth is that some of these false prophets are unaware that they don't carry the right message. The result is that they easily transfer what they know to others who respect them. Their hearers suffer in the end because what they get cannot be traced to the scriptures. This makes it necessary to be sure that the Bible is read among Christian teachers.

All Christian teachers must learn how to manage their time well. One of the problems with many of them is that they are unable to apportion time appropriately to the different segments of worship in their fellowship. There should be time for singing praises, time to study the word, time to ask questions and for any other important program.

It is easy to go through a topic hurriedly especially when you have a lot to cover with your students. However, this must be discouraged as it pays more to teach one topic for several minutes if that is what it will take to drive home the points. A teacher who handles different age grades should also note that it is unwise to allocate the same study time to a teenager and one who is an adult.

The benefits of Christian education cannot be overemphasized especially for parents who want to make sure that their children get the right teachings. For such parents, two things must not be neglected. They must know the tutor's background and be sure that the center is conducive to learning.
