Will The Antichrist Be A Muslim Imam

By Eliza Mendoza

The questions about end times ignite cross cutting debates that are tricky to understand. Christians have been wondering, will the antichrist be a Muslim. Islam and Christianity have a lot of literature about the end of this world. Only these scriptures can be used in the search for a conclusive answer. Whether the so called beast will be Islamic or not remains a theological puzzle that can only be solved by time.

Islam is brought into the picture because Shiites tell of an imam who disappeared at a tender age of six. He is said to have sort shelter in caves to escape persecution. This imam is said to have been the twelfth after Mohamed. The Shiites belief that he shall return before judgment falls on mankind.

The book of Revelations tells of a final ruler to arise before the Day of Judgment. This story is contained in Chapter thirteen, verse four in Revelations. What identifies him as the antichrist is his promise of bringing peace to Israel over a seven year period. This promise shall be broken before the seven years are over.

Christians have been trying to draw parallels in the scriptures from the bible and the Quran. Prophets in the bible indicate that when the peace deal collapses, the ruler shall become a tyrant and impose himself over the world. He will take the title of God and demand that nations should worship him. The similarities in the return of the imam and the rise of the king before final judgment raise the question of the beast coming from the Islamic faith.

In the old testament, the narration by Daniel brings about confusion into the debate. He indicates that four kings shall rise before rapture occurs. The last of these four kings is to give clear indications that he is the prophesied beast. He will claim supernatural powers, rule by intrigues and be full of deceit. These are the traits to be used by Christians to know that the final days have arrived.

The bible seems to exonerate Muslims from blame when it constructs the images of the final days. It describes four kingdoms with the last being a regrouped Roman Empire. Muslims are not part of this Roman Empire and therefore escape the net. Fighting between Muslims and Jews makes it almost impossible to get the seven year truce to be promised by the king. This seems to exclude Muslims from the equation.

Knowledge about the antichrist remains speculative. A likely possibility would be a person who finally brings peace to the Middle East. For that to happen, a mixture of Muslim and Jewish decent would be a likely person. Such a person would be welcome by Muslims and regarded as the twelfth imam while Jews would look at him as one of their own.

The question, will the antichrist be a Muslim remains with Christians until the completion of time. The bible requires Christians to be vigilant and scrutinize anyone who claims to come from God. A simple test would be to establish whether that person recognizes Jesus as the Lord and savior. Such words must be supported by actions.
