Characteristics Of Members In A Church Building Committee

By Patty Goff

Erecting church structures is important for every ministry that wants to grow. The kind of structure you raise and the time it takes depends on the church building committee. The building committee must be composed of honorable members if the building project must progress. Some of the qualities they should possess include honesty, integrity, love, understanding and persuasiveness.

It is impossible to allow a team handle thousands of dollars if there is anyone of them in their midst who cannot be trusted. If they are honest, you can willingly send them out to represent you before highly placed citizens for financial support without thinking they may hide some of the money. The team must not find it difficult to say the truth at all times.

Integrity is one quality that must be emphasized when picking members for the group. They represent the church outside so they must do anything to protect their image. Integrity means not looking back on God even in unpleasant situations.

A loving person can easily carry out these attributes. A person who loves his or her fellow knows that food is the most important need of any person and must be available before one can think about providing secondary needs. His or her love for God will make him or her more zealous and create other ways of sourcing the fund even in the absence of others in the group.

Every member of the group should be able to convince the audience to make financial contributions. Getting money from people can be tough at certain periods in the year and things are really hard these days. The people should be willing to do what they are asked to do after their speech.

Even if someone in the congregation does not have money to contribute, the committee should understand with him or her. Understanding is vital as it prevents disunity and backbiting in the church. It is also an indicator of the fact that all fingers are not equal. Understanding when combined with wisdom helps in knowing the seasons and times to begin fund raising and the methods to accomplish the mission.

Anybody who is called to join the force for erecting the structure must also be sacrificial. This means he or she must be willing to let go certain things such as comfort, time and even money. When targets are not realized after fund raising, it becomes the responsibility of the members to seek extra measures of making it up. This may boil down to making individual contributions. Sometimes, this action may be done more than twice in a month, depending on how the need arises.

Finally, it is also important to select those who have some kind of influence and training over others. For example, a professor in a university can be appointed to do most of the motivation while addressing the public. A lawyer can be appointed to advise other members on legal matters to avoid disputes with the government. An architect and civil engineer in the team will make the erection progress quickly. A building committee with these calibers of people is sure of success.
