Deciding On Jewish And Christian Wedding Rabbi

By Helen Reed

It is time for this occasion when one of the couple is Jewish and the call for this type of celebration is required. A Jewish and Christian wedding Rabbi may be consulted to understand what it is that is required by law under these circumstances. There exists a growing need for services such as these as congregations intermingle and want to get married.

Today people wanting this can get it done and have a chuppah to commemorate the occasion. A chuppah is the canopy that the bride and groom stand under and is held up high by four men, each at one pole. These men are usually made up by close friends and family who are given the honour on this special day.

This is why some partners will want to convert and should this be the case, then the local Beth Din must be consulted. The Beth Din or Ecclesiastical court governs laws pertaining to this religion. It is not a religion that seeks converts but rather if there is yearning to become one, then this court of law has to be approached in order to find out what is required in becoming a convert.

If one wants to be wed in this nature then there are other considerations to take into account for that matter. For one, it is best to ensure that the food is kosher and meets up to kashrut conditions as stipulated by the local Beth Din. A mashgiach will also be required to ensure that all kashrut standards are met during the celebration.

Kashrut or kosher laws are stringent and one will have to consider bringing in a mashgiach to oversee the preparation of it and serving. A mashgiach is the title given to someone who does just this and must be on site on the day to make sure laws are abided by. This is another cost factor to take into account as this person will be expected to be paid for services rendered.

There are certain times of the year when marriages are permissible so as not to coincide with Festivals and other observed days such as fast days. Besides this it must be decided upon whether or not the use of Chuppah will be used. This is the canopy that the bride and groom stand under during the ceremony.

There are laws that must be adhered to and the best person to consult is none other than a Rabbi who is willing to conduct the service. Should one of the couple not be willing to convert and not keep in line with tradition, it is possible to still have a function of this kind. There is much to prepare so the best place to start is to ask around and consult the Internet.

All in all, and in every way possible, it is a great day and one that will live in the minds of many that were present at the time. Consulting a Rabbi of this kind is the first step in overcoming the many obstacles that will present themselves when finding out what to do for such an occasion. Most of all, enjoy the journey, it is a start of many together.
