The Possibility Of Same Sex Married Life

By Cathy Mercer

Same sex married life has a lot of benefits ever since gay marriages have been accepted in some states. A lot of cultures have been open to gay people even before activists protested in America. In some countries, gayness is very much part of the culture and has never been an issue with the society. However, a lot of states still oppose this right to the gay citizens in their area.

There are a lot of pros and cons to gay marriage that a lot of people do not know of. First thing, everyone should be given equal opportunity to love whom they love and be with them should they please. Anyone should be allowed to publicly express and celebrate their commitment to each other, whether be it homosexual commitment or heterosexual commitment. Whatever the society can offer to heterosexual marriages should also be freely offered to homosexual relationships as well.

Several benefits have been rewarded to straight couples for the past years that focus on health care and life insurance. However, since gay couples cannot be wed in certain states, they do not get to claim these benefits with their long term partners mainly because they cannot be legally married. This poses a huge problem because several gay couples live together and put in as much commitment as other straight couples do.

Whatever values society upholds today are molded by the people themselves. Therefore, the institution of marriage should change as the people themselves change. By this time, marriage should be redefined because people have come to accept certain values and changes in this society.

Denying people of their rights only means that they are being discriminated against. Discrimination is a serious issue that the state itself should not be practicing. Denying gay couples certain rights is putting them in the minority without much reason behind it. Everyone should be entitled to their rights and not be treated as inferiors.

Gay couples have been having a lot of difficulty adopting children. Child adoption is hard enough as it is because it is a very tedious and long process. This endeavor is even more difficult for gay couples who are not married. Their non legal partnership is grounds for childcare not to classify them as potential parents. However, the sexual orientation of a person does not determine his or her parental capabilities.

Being able to commit to a long term relationship with someone adds to a person's long term life satisfaction and happiness. If gay couples are not allowed to celebrate their commitment to each other, this increases their chances of experiencing depression and withdrawals. Marriage provides happiness and stability to people, and gay people should be able to have this kind of satisfaction as well.

Besides, same sex married life could be very enjoyable for the couple because of the very essence of their relationship. Since they both are in the similar gender, they both know what each other wants. They have an idea of how the other must feel mainly because they have the similar biological sex.
