Marriage Counseling Tackles Issues On Extra Marital Affairs

By Deborah F. Garcia

Married couples: be wary and vigilant of the temptations all around you. Always be on guard and know the telltale signs of an affair that is about to begin. Run away from it as fast as you could, for it might eat you up and destroy your married life.

Learn The Various Types Of Affairs

In marriage counseling, your eyes will be opened on the different kinds of affairs. It doesn't even have to be sexual in order to be regarded as one. As long as there is some emotional investment, no matter how small it is, then a full-blown affair can begin there.

Reasons For Affairs

Why do affairs happen in the first place? First of all is that you can no longer satisfy the emotional needs of your partner. Either you are too busy with work or some other stuff that you tend to neglect your partner.

You no longer spend so much time with each other and this leads to searching. By searching, it means you look for somebody who can make you feel good, make you feel loved and wanted, not just sexually. You search for somebody new whom you can talk to, whom you can relate with and discuss various concerns that you can't do with your partner because you don't spend time together. In marriage counseling, time is emphasized with so much weight on how it can make or break a marriage.

Second, you don't include your partner in your daily activities. You tend to do things by yourself. Don't isolate your spouse. Get him/her involved in your interests and enjoy them together as a couple. You might love your spouse, but then, your activities are spent with others. This in turn, predisposes you to an affair.

Doing It Online Is Still An Affair

In marriage counseling, you'll learn that getting online can be harmful, too. You may be spending too much time in the Internet, rather than spending it with your partner. You might also get addicted to online pornography that it'll make your partner feel unwanted sexually. Even if there's no physical contact, but the mere fact that you enjoy it too much is another story.

What To Do If You Commit An Affair

The moment you are into a marital affair, try to break it as soon as possible. Reach out to your spouse and express regret for your transgressions. Ask for forgiveness sincerely and do everything to regain the trust that has been lost. Talk about it and discuss the issues that led to the affair.

Oftentimes, both parties can be blamed for the affair because what you are looking for in a relationship cannot be given to you by your spouse. Discuss on how you can change things and start anew. For all you know, the extra-marital affair may even strengthen your relationship. In marriage counseling, constant communication is the key to having a lasting marriage.

If you feel like there is an impending affair or it has already started, it's best to talk to your spouse and discuss the different reasons on what is lacking in your marriage, as advised from a marriage counseling video.
